ather in Northern Ontario where the rock faces can be very slick. Happily, these boots gripped very well and I felt more confident on wet rock than I had since moving away from Mammut.

Fit-wise, I consciously went half a size larger [for the first time] since I had found Mammuts' fit to be on the small for my feet -- especially since I use orthotics. While Mammuts seem to run small for me, they are incredibly comfortable. With the Sapuen, I really like the addition of the pad which has the rear heal loop attached and supports the achilles. It really helps nestle my heal in place very comfortably.

I didn't have any real problems with breaking in the Sapuen. I did several hikes with a full pack and had a minor quibble. There was point pressure near the first outer hook eyelet adjacent to my right ankle. For some reason, that area was folding into my ankle as it flexed and became uncomfortable after a few hours. I adjusted the lacing and it seemed to get better. I don't know whether this was due to less robust wall material, lack of break in, me, or all of the above.
